Dental Implants

Dental implants are one of the most exciting advancements in dental technology. Implants are used to replace one or more missing teeth and give a beautiful, natural look that can last a lifetime. If you have gaps in your smile or are tired of struggling with loose dentures, implants could be the perfect option for you!

Implants are one of the healthiest ways to replace missing teeth. Unlike dentures, implants are permanent and don’t rely on existing teeth for support. Because they are anchored in the jawbone, implants look and feel just like your real teeth. In fact, dental implants are so stable and secure that they give you ten times more chewing power then dentures! With implants you’ll finally be able to eat your favourite foods again. And you’ll enjoy all the benefits of a picture-perfect smile that glows with natural beauty!

What is a dental implant?

A dental implant is a permanent artificial replacement of a natural tooth. As part of the procedure, a metal anchor or implant, is placed below the gum-line. The implant acts like the root of your tooth, providing the same level of security and stability for your new tooth. Once the implant is securely in place, the dentist will create a crown or attach a denture or bridge to fit over the metal anchor and replace your missing tooth.

Reasons for dental implants:

  • Replace one or more missing teeth without affecting adjacent teeth
  • Resolve joint pain or bite problems caused by teeth shifting into missing tooth space
  • Restore a patient’s confident smile
  • Restore chewing, speech, and digestion
  • Restore or enhance facial tissues
  • Support a bridge or denture, making it more secure and comfortable

What does getting dental implants involve?

The process of getting implants requires a number of visits over several months.

X-rays and impressions (molds) are taken of the jaw and teeth to determine bone, gum tissue, and spacing available for an implant. While the area is numb, the implant will be surgically placed into the bone and allowed to heal and integrate itself for three to four months.

After several months of healing the artificial teeth are made and fitted to the post portion of the anchor. Because several fittings may be required, this step may take one to two months to complete. After a healing period, the artificial teeth are securely attached to the implant, providing excellent stability and comfort to the patient.

You will receive care instructions when your treatment is completed. Good oral hygiene and eating habits, alongside regular dental visits, will aid in the life of your new implant.

Why are dental implants effective?

The implant is secured below the gums, it simulates fresh bone and tissue to grow around it. This new growth prevents the jawbone and gum tissue from shrinking and deteriorating, which happens when teeth are missing. Dental implants protect your oral health by preventing damage to surrounding teeth and help support facial muscles, giving you a more youthful appearance. Implants also free you from wobbly dentures and messy denture pastes and glues. With implants, you can speak and eat with comfort and smile with confidence. Implants have a very high success rate and can last a lifetime with proper care.
